As part of preparation for next semester’s activities, the Head of IULI’s Aviation Engineering Study Program, Neno Ruseno, and one of the lecturers, Ananta Widjaja, visited Balai Besar Teknologi Aerodinamika, Aeroelastika dan Aeroakustika (BBTA3) of Puspiptek in Serpong on 23 November 2016. BBTA3, formerly known as LAGG (Laboratorium Aero Gas dan Getaran), has the biggest wind tunnel facility in South East Asia with a test section size of 3×4 m. It can be used to test one full size car or parts of aircraft components. Besides the largest wind tunnel in South East Asia, Puspiptek also has several other wind tunnels, with test section sizes of 2x1m, which are used for industrial testing, and smaller wind tunnels for research, with test section sizes of 50×50 cm and 30×30 cm.
The IULI delegation was met by Wibawa Purabaya, the Head of Service Department of BBTA3, and his staff, Matza Gusto Andika. IULI and Puspiptek discussed the opportunities of a collaboration in joint research and also using the Puspitek facilities to support academic activities in IULI. In the near future, there will be an MoU between IULI and Puspiptek to allow this collaboration to materialize. The visit ended with a facilities tour to see all the wind tunnels and laboratories in BBTA3.
