IULI Goes To Kampung BADUY: “How Manages to Live Sustainably”

IULI University, especially Business Social Science Faculty organized a trip to Baduy Village, on October 2nd 2024 event though this is not a first time to visit this village. The Baduy people, an indigenous group living in the Banten province on the island of Java, have a unique way of managing their environment and resources, which allows them to live sustainably.

The Dean of Business Social Science  of IULI University Dr (C). RA.Afera Wijayanti, M.Ak., CPMSA  for this activity has several reasons related to academic, cultural, and personal growth for this trip, through the Community Service Project, the lecturers and students must understand cultural immersion, sustainability and environmental learning, social awareness and respect for diversity and field learning. The expected learning outcomes or benefits for students is a cultural appreciation, perspective on sustainability, critical thinking and reflection, also the teamwork and collaboration.

This trip requires students to work together, to set, and manage and prepare everything for each event, also enhancing their teamwork and communication skills in a practical in real-world setting. Muh. Syarif Nasution (Imu) from the Management Study Program is a leader also his team Arrafa Fairley and Waleed Snkaar student from Saudi Arabia from the International Business Administration study program and other friends have been involved in organizing this special event. On this trip, Students anticipate more understanding of Indigenous cultures, diversity of culture, and the value of cultural preservation, not only in Indonesia but compared to other countries, just like the students who took part in this trip came from various countries like Philippine, Europe, Saudi, Indonesia and Pakistan.

The  first results for this activity is to enhanced student engagement with provided a more engaging, interactive learning experience, enhancing students’ connection to course material,  another result is to Improved Social Skills and Empathy so the students can develop the stronger social skills and empathy for people from different backgrounds, and the last result  for the positive academic and Personal Impact is the feedback from past participants showed that students came back with broad perspectives, a deeper appreciation of knowledge,  study, research, culture and increased commitment to sustainability for community service, education and research.

People Baduy way of life is based on spirituality, customs, and a close relationship with the natural world. They manage agricultural practices, strict environmental rules, minimal use of technology,
