4 November 2017 – The IULI International Relations Students Association (HIMAHI) hosted, in BSD City, a regional gathering of International Relations (IR) students from 15 universities. This event was held under the auspices of “Forum Komunikasi Mahasiswa Hubungan Internasional se-Indonesia” (FKMHII—Dialogue Forum for Indonesian International Relations Students). It is an assembly of more than 55 IR associations from campuses across Indonesia. FKMHII for IR students is on a par with AIHII for the professional IR scholars. IULI’s HIMAHI has been a member of FKMHII since May 2017.
The “Gathering” was one of a number of academic, networking, and social functions that FKMHII holds annually. The program also included the inauguration of the association’s new chair. Being an organization with very limited manpower, HIMAHI found this task especially challenging. The scale and resources required to host a properly presented banquet for about 150 invitees is something that required considerable management skill from our undergraduates.
Despite the odds, the night concluded with praise from the invitees. For some, it even exceeded expectations—considering IULI International Relations’ (INR) age and the size of its student body. The night saw a performance by IULI’s own student band, NuGelo, and a contribution of DJ Arman, an IR student from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The whole event was recorded by members of IULI Photography Club.
The Saturday’s event marked INR students’ first contribution for its peers. Although at student level, the event significantly exposes IULI INR to the greater IR community in Indonesia and seals its place on the map. Both the Department of International Relations and HIMAHI thank FKMHII for the trust placed despite the limited experience and resources available (SaK/MiE).
