18 February 2017 – Once again, one of IULI’s students has achieved success in a national event. Thariq Amanillah Kotoswantry from International Business Administration semester 4 was the runner up in the under 21 division of the 2017 Faldo Series Asia, Indonesia Championship.
“I almost won. In my 1st round, I shot 77 (+5 par), 4 shots off the lead. But in my 2nd round, I played very poorly because I was so tired playing two rounds in one day. Therefore I felt happy but sad at the same time. But it is my best result in this tournament so far,” Thariq said. This tournament is a qualification tournament for the Asia Final at Laguna Golf Course, Vietnam. Only champions from all divisions can go to the Asia final.
The Faldo Series tournament is a worldwide event founded by Sir Nick Faldo (a golf legend from England). The purpose is to develop the next great players who will be able to play on the world tour. Rory MciIroy, world number 3 from Northern Ireland, and Yanni Tseng, a Chinese Tapei player, are past champions of this tournament. In Indonesia, the Faldo series is one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments and the event has done a lot to develop golf in Indonesia.
