28 March 2018 – IULI students from the Food Technology and Chemical Engineering Study Programs visited the Research Center for Chemistry at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), at PUSPITEK region in Serpong, Banten. The main purpose of the visit was to carry out experiments that require specific analytical instrumentations to perform.
In this case, students were using the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
(AAS) to study trace concentrations of heavy metals in water, Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS) to measure the concentration of Eugenol in clove essential oil, and the measurements of acid hydrolysis products of cassava starch, ie. glucose and xylose, by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
The work is part of the collaboration between IULI and LIPI in the fields of education and research that will benefit both students and researchers in the two institutions.
