Climate change is a change in climate conditions that occurs globally and locally, causing changes in temperature, rainfall, and weather patterns. Human activities and also natural factors cause these changes.
Causes of climate change include Green House Gas (GHG) emissions such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), and Nitrous Oxide (N2O) as well as the use of fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas). The impacts of climate change include increasing global temperatures, changes in extreme weather patterns (storms, floods, droughts), and effects on human health and the economy.
As one small effort to address climate change, namely reducing the effects of green house gas emissions, several IULI students from the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences led by Waleed, and his team Rafa, Aflah, Imu, Sarah etc., recently carried out activities by collecting used clothes from various sources, they made a work plan starting from looking for used clothes, collecting, and handing them over to used clothing decomposition institutions. According to them, used clothes are one of the elements that are difficult to decompose and become waste that will damage the environment in the long term.
The collected used clothes are put in and separated by type of material (cotton, polyester, wool), size, and condition, then through a cleaning and cutting process. After being cut into small pieces, the fabric will be processed into new products. The efforts of IULI students and Afera as the project supervisors to contribute to the issue of climate change are commendable (red:AW)
