TANGERANG, October 30, 2026. Students in the Physiotherapy program at International University Liaison Indonesia (IULI) had the opportunity to learn firsthand from an Indonesian physiotherapys who has built a career in Sweden for over four years. Through a remote guest lecture, Eki Tunjungsari joined online to share her journey, the challenges she faced, and the opportunities available to physiotherapists in a country with one of the most integrated healthcare systems in the world.

Eki began the session by outlining the path she took to establish her career in Sweden. She described her educational background, the arduous process of learning Swedish from scratch, and the subsequent matriculation and competency-recognition stages required to practice professionally. This demonstrated to the students that an international career is well within reach—a path that can be planned as early as their first semester.

The session became even more engaging when Eki introduced various branches of physiotherapy, including geriatrics, pediatrics, oncology, sports and exercise, and neurology. She also highlighted mental health physiotherapy—a field that utilizes movement, physical activity, and body awareness to support the recovery of patients with psychological disorders. Students were particularly fascinated to learn about veterinary physiotherapy (such as rehabilitation for racehorses), a field rarely discussed in Indonesia. In addition, Eki discussed closely related professions such as occupational therapy, providing students with a comprehensive overview of the broader rehabilitation ecosystem.

Beyond the technical subject matter, Eki shared her experience adapting to a multicultural work environment alongside healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds. She also spoke about navigating the Swedish healthcare system, which is characterized by strong interconnectedness between different professions and services. Her experience highlighted that communication skills, intercultural openness, and teamwork are just as vital as clinical competence.

This initiative aligns with IULI’s commitment to equipping students with an international perspective from the very beginning of their studies. For first-semester students, this session was far more than just a guest lecture; it served as a window into the expansive career pathways available in physiotherapy—both in Indonesia and on the global stage.
